<p>These massage tips will help you give a relaxing, healing massage and can help you provide specific relief for tight, sore, stiff muscles in the neck and shoulders.</p>
<p>For a true relaxation massage, it&#8217;s important to respect the body.  Deep relaxation from massage may require several techniques- Swedish, Deep Tissue, Spa, Soft Tissue, Lymphatic Drainage, etc.</p>

Part of it is our lifestyles ie sitting in cars for long periods of time, in front of computers, we were made to run, jump, and hunt lions not spend hours at a time in front of the computer battling world of warcraft!!!!! These 5 simple stretches will help to relieve low back pain when combined with foam rolling and core strengthening exercises.  Remember a weak core, tight hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors will lead to low back pain.  Create a great day, get out there and hunt some lions!!!!! -Coach T</p>

<p>Poor posture and a slouched, slumped back can contribute to a wealth of physical dysfunction and pain in the back, hips, butt, thighs, legs, arms, shoulders, neck, hands, and well&#8230; you get the idea.  In this video, Christie Powell, head of physical therapy at Catz Austin, explains how poor posture can cause low back pain and other issues like carpal tunnel and sciatica.  This video and the rest of the series will give you easy tips and exercises to alleviate pain and discomfort.</p>
<p>Often when we are sitting at the computer, watching TV or movies, playing video games, and driving, we slump into poor posture and a curved spine.  This exerts pressure throughout the entire body and over time will severely weaken the shoulders and back so that sitting correctly becomes uncomfortable.  </p>
<p>The only way to improve posture is to begin changing your habits and to try and get in the habit of reminding yourself to sit up straight.  A posture-buddy at work is a great idea so you can keep reminding each other, or you can set a timer or alarm on your desk.</p>
<p>Part 2 will feature Ron Vaughn demonstrating some sports massage techniques to relax and unwind the muscles so the chest and pecs can loosen and open up, freeing the spine to move into its natural position. </p>
<p>Part 3 will give you some easy exercises and stretches you can do at home to assist with a tight neck and shoulders or back pain.  She also will show an exercise using a physio ball and a foam rolller.</p>
<p>Christie received her Masters from Texas State University and is currently pursuing her PhD in Kinesiology/Movement Science at the University of Texas.  She is dedicated to working with youth and adult athletes and is involved in various programs to promote education and increase awareness of athletic injuries. </p>

<p>Anyone who has ever suffered some form of back injury has sought relief through the use of back pain medications at some point in their life. In fact back issues are one of the most common conditions that doctors see every year. If you do go to the doctor there are a number of medications he or she may prescribe to help keep the pain under control.</p>
<p>There is a general understanding within the medical community that pain relief is an important part of the healing process. For this reason the chances of being prescribed a drug for back pain when you visit the doctor are rather good. Part of healing from an injury of any sort involves being able to move around, even it it&#8217;s to only get out of bed for a few minutes several times a day. A degree of mobility is important to the general well being of anyone with back problems.</p>
<p>There are several classes of back pain medications that are in use today and these include anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID&#8217;s), acetaminophen, muscle relaxants, and opioids. These can be used by themselves or in combinations depending on the severity of the pain experienced and the cause of the injury.</p>
<p>NSAID&#8217;s are a group of anti-inflammatory drugs that include ibuprofen, aspirin, Ketoprofen, and Naproxen. These drugs have anti-inflammatory and anti swelling properties as well as being able to relieve pain and most can be gotten over the counter. Another OTC pain reliever is acetaminophen which most people know as Tylenol. Anacin-3 and Phenaphen are two other acetaminophen analgesics that can be used to reduce back pain. </p>
<p>Codeine and morphine are to high powered pain killers commonly known as opioids. Doctors will prescribe these for those in severe pain when the pain killer mentioned above do not work. Because opioids do present an addiction hazard they need to be used cautiously and as prescribed.</p>
<p>Muscle relaxants work to control muscle spasms that happen when you injure your back. The reason most people have muscle spasms when they hurt their back is because the muscles around the injured area are trying to compensate for the loss of strength at the injured spot. These spasms can be painful and by relaxing the muscles we get relief from that pain.</p>
<p>Reducing pain is an integral part of healing a bad back and back pain medication should be used to help achieve that goal. Pain relief comes with a caveat; just because the pain is gone does not mean the injury is healed. Far to many people further aggravate their painful back by doing to much when their pain is being controlled by their medication.</p>
